Six Companies Selected for the “2024 Korea Innovative Startup Awards,” Recognizing Deep-Tech Startups Elevating Korea’s Innovation Ecosystem
On the 11th, six companies were selected for the “2024 Korea Innovative Startup Awards,” which aim to identify deep-tech startups that have elevated Korea’s innovation startup ecosystem to the next level. Established by Seoul National University, KAIST, and JoongAng Holdings, the awards are intended to encourage startups armed with innovative technologies and ideas to become future growth engines driving the Korean economy.
Now in its third year since being launched in 2022, this year’s awards honored six companies, including Standard Energy Co., Ltd., a developer of eco-friendly energy storage systems (ESS) that received the Minister of Science and ICT Award, and MetisX, an intelligent memory solutions startup. The awards ceremony will be held on the 11th at “Innovative Startup Nation Korea International Symposium 2024,” hosted at Seoul National University.
Standard Energy, which received the ministerial award, has been recognized for leading the eco-friendly energy industry through the development of innovative ESS solutions. The company has developed vanadium-ion batteries, which are emerging as next-generation batteries in the ESS market. Leveraging high energy efficiency, long battery life stability, and recyclability, the company is expanding its presence in global markets.
MetisX is a startup that develops semiconductors and solutions specialized for large-scale data processing based on the CXL (Compute Express Link) standard. Last month, MetisX was named the most innovative memory startup at “The Future of Memory and Storage” event held in Silicon Valley, California.
The KAIST President’s Award was presented to KobioLabs Co., Ltd., which provides innovative microbiome-based bio solutions. Founded by a Seoul National University faculty member, the company is proposing a new paradigm in biotechnology through continuous R&D, including the development of new probiotic products.
The Seoul National University President’s Award went to Perigee Aerospace, a space launch vehicle startup led by founders from KAIST. The company is conducting domestic test flights of its self-developed launch vehicle and is working to expand into overseas markets through cooperation with organizations such as Sweden’s national space company and the Philippine Space Agency.
The JoongAng Holdings Chairman’s Award was awarded to Rznomics Co., Ltd., a biotechnology startup developing customized therapeutics using gene-editing technologies. The company is innovating biotechnology and opening new horizons in drug development.
MedInTech, which received the Chairman’s Award of the National Research Council of Science & Technology, is leading digital transformation in the medical field by providing medical image analysis and diagnostic support solutions. Through innovative AI-based medical technologies, the company enhances diagnostic efficiency in hospitals and contributes to the advancement of cutting-edge medical technologies.
At the symposium, the six award-winning companies, along with deep-tech startups from KAIST and Seoul National University, will present a wide range of innovative technologies.
