[Seoul R&D Leading Case] <8> MedInTech, Motorized Smart Veterinary Endoscopy System

Seoul City and the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) are identifying innovative cases in the medical device industry through the Seoul-Type R&D Support Program. MedInTech has developed a motorized smart veterinary endoscopy system, which integrates motorization and artificial intelligence to improve clinician convenience and accuracy while enhancing animal safety during endoscopic procedures.

MedInTech optimized its motorized flexible endoscopy technology for the veterinary field. Rather than simply replicating existing approaches, the company entered the veterinary market with minimized development risk and secured reliability by building on proven human medical technologies.

MedInTech addressed key challenges of the mechanically operated endoscopes commonly used in veterinary practice today—such as uncomfortable grip designs, unnatural procedural postures, and the resulting musculoskeletal strain and high fatigue experienced by practitioners.

The solution lies in a motorized operating mechanism, reduced device weight, and AI-based assistive technologies. The portable, all-in-one system and touch-panel-based interface enable immediate and efficient use in local animal hospitals without the need for additional installation, maximizing applicability across diverse clinical environments.

These innovative operating methods improve procedural usability for veterinarians, increasing concentration during procedures and reducing operational errors. As a result, the risks of misdiagnosis due to missed lesions and serious complications such as perforation are significantly reduced, thereby maximizing safety and accuracy in veterinary care.

Through support from the Seoul-Type R&D program, MedInTech secured the core driving force needed to develop the motorized smart veterinary endoscopy system. The program provided practical support for the most essential and financially burdensome elements in the early R&D stage—such as material costs, labor costs, and preclinical testing—playing a decisive role in reducing uncertainty and accelerating development.

The funding enabled MedInTech to cover the costs of high-performance components and sensor materials required to miniaturize and optimize its existing human motorized endoscopy technology for companion animal digestive systems. It also supported the stable operation of specialized research personnel necessary to implement AI-based smart functions. In particular, support for preclinical testing—an essential step in verifying the safety and efficacy of veterinary medical devices—laid the foundation for rapid and systematic regulatory preparation.

Kim Tae-hyun, Project Manager at MedInTech, stated, “MedInTech’s ultimate goal is to create a clinical environment in which medical professionals can provide care more comfortably and safely in both human and animal healthcare settings,” adding, “We will continue to invest in developing better products that meet user needs based on the voices of those in the field.”

Kim also noted, “While the AI-based medical device industry is advancing rapidly, regulatory frameworks have not kept pace, constraining growth,” and added, “A ‘rapid change management system’ should be introduced to certify manufacturers’ capabilities and allow swift product releases for minor updates without prior approval, in order to accommodate fast-paced AI innovation.”
